The Coureur des Bois trade knife is named after the French "woods runners" who were prevalent in Colonial North America.  The larger-sized blade has a slight drop-point profile and is suitable for butchering, skinning, or any other wilderness tasks which require a sharp and functional knife to be ready at hand.  You could do well in the wilderness with this knife on your belt.

Below are the detailed measurements of this knife. One important note: for best comfort and grip, the length of your middle finger should be similar to the circumference of the handle.

Good knife. Looks nice too. But the blade is a bit thin. (Also the blade arrived slightly rusted. It’s was no problem cleaning it and oiling). Good enough the the price payed. I’ve ordered a knife from here before so I knew what I was getting.

Super slicer...

Another beautiful piece of functional art, this knife is quite thin with a bit of flex to the blade. I prefer the handle on this one over the heavier Hudson Bay knife's. This will sharpen up very well because of how thin it is. The size is about perfect for me. I like a 5" blade. This will handle slicing and piercing tasks quite well, but you wouldn't want this one to make kindling with. Backpackers will appreciate this one. It's light as a feather. Both of my knives from this maker balance perfectly on my forefinger. The sheath is worth as much as the knife Very sturdy and well made, these knives are worth every penny. While I do love this knife, I'd love to see this style in 2mm blade stock. I'd snap one up in a heartbeat.

History and Utility

I love it that these are reproduction knives with the flavor of centuries past to them. But even more, I got this one to be a cooking-oriented camp knife. With all the interest in bushcraft you'd be hard-pressed to find another camping knife with a blade nearly as thin, but for kitchen knives it's a highly prized quality. I'm also a sucker for a wooden handle, but seriously this is about the sliciest knife I've seen not sold as a kitchen knife. There's a lot of history making these knives look right in the campsite, and their geometry makes them good performers at food prep. You could bring a small chef's knife to the camp, but why not have the same performance in something more appropriate? That's how I feel about it.
